Ramadhan in Bali

Though the majority of its people are Hindu, but Eid ul Fitr moment in Bali is as beautiful as it is in another region. Moeslims in Bali have a unique tradition called Ngejot where they give Ramadhan food like chicken curry, Ketupat and rendang to the neighbors a day before or after the Eid day.

Beside Ngejot, another tradition done by Muslims in Bali is Megibung. It actually is an Iftrar feast where all friends and family gather surrounding a very big plate and eat together. The tradition has been done hereditary in Kampong Islam Kepaon on the 10th, 20th and 30th day of fasting month.

The Megibung tradition in Kampong Islam Kepaon is started as the fast-breaking drum heard. They will come and gather in Al-Muhajrin mosque where the feast is held, have a Ta’jil and pray before the dinner. They will be separated in groups of 4 or 5 and eat together from one big plate.
